HUGE NEWS: The Insect Defend Patch has finally received full approval from Health Canada!!

Hello Everyone,

WE HAVE REALLY BIG NEWS.....

Tuesday Nov. 27th will go down in history as a milestone day for this amazing product.

The Insect Defend Patch has finally received full approval from Health Canada!!!!!! We were issued our Natural Health Product number yesterday afternoon. We are now also known as NPN # 80037826.

We have been operating for over 5 years with an exemption number awaiting full approval. After a full review of our field test results and safety protocols, Health Canada has seen fit to finally give us the green light.

This is a huge breakthrough, to our knowledge we are the first and only Natural Health Product approved by Heath Canada PROVEN to help reduce mosquito bites. HC is well known as being one of the most stringent health organizations in the entire world. To finally receive their backing saying we DO have a positive effect in reducing mosquito bites proves what we have been saying all along.

FAQ #7 - We put the Insect DEFEND Patch on before driving up to the cottage, approximately 2.5 hours and got attacked when we stepped out of the car. Why?

The release of Thiamine (Vitamin B1) into the body works when the body is in motion. Try applying the patch before you start loading the vehicle and allow a little time after arriving (about the time needed to empty the vehicle) to best judge the results. This activity will result in the body’s chemistry reacting with the Thiamine (Vitamin B1) to produce an ‘invisible barrier’.

What you don't know about ‘citronella-based personal insect repellents’

Why aren't citronella wrist bands available in Canada?
Because no one has been able to satisfy Health Canada that they are actually safe...
Below is more information on Health Canada's reasoning behind this.

Citronella is an essential oil obtained from various species of lemongrass, where the leaves and stems are dried out and the oil is extracted. It can grow up to 1.5m and is grown in Sri Lanka, India, Burma and Indonesia. Also, it is related to the lemon grasses used in Southeast Asian cooking.

Health Canada reviewed the information available on ‘citronella-based personal insect repellents’ that get applied directly to the skin, in 2004. They found that there was a not a lot of safety data that supported the products continued registration, but Health Canada did not find any impending health risks. The product is allowed to stay on the market until a final decision is made.

FAQ #6 - I had noticed that alcohol and smoking will affect this product. Can you please explain further?

Alcohol and tobacco are known to affect blood chemistry and as a result can influence how the patch will work. Testing seems to indicate that those who are drinking or who are smokers will require re-application of the Insect DEFEND Patch more frequently than non-smokers or those who have not been drinking. Since both alcohol and tobacco are known to limit the effects of vitamins it may also be possible that the Insect DEFEND Patch is slightly less effective. Great question, try the DEFEND patch and let us know your experience!

The Insect Defend Patch on Dragon's Den

"The smallest product lands the biggest deal in Dragons' Den history." That was the opening line delivered by Ron Whittick, a distributor of the Insect Defend Patch, as himself and James Krane introduced themselves to the Dragons’. And that is exactly the deal they got.

James Krane of Milton, Ont., was a Subway Sandwich franchisee when an friend introduced him to an inventor from Phoenix, Ariz. The meeting led to the launch of Safety in Motion, Canadian distributor for Insect Defend Patch, a Vitamin B1 trans-dermal patch that protects against mosquito bites for over 24 hours.

FAQ #5 - Does it prevent deer ticks or horseflies from biting also?

Good Question. There has been no research done to date that indicated that either insect species has any adverse distaste for Thiamine (Vitamin B1). We have however, received some positive feedback from a customer that said the patched worked with him while golfing against horse and deer flies.

As well, we have received testimonials from other customers telling us that the patch has also worked for them against sand fleas, no-see-ums, and black flies. Again, no testing has been done for these biting insects, but customers have seen positive results against them.

Use The Insect Defend Patch if you plan on Traveling this Holiday Season

Are you planning to travel to a warmer climate over the holidays?

This is the time of year that many people like to get away somewhere warm, whether it’s for the holidays or just to escape the cold for a little while. If you plan on traveling south over the holidays, there are a few things you should keep in mind…

The Insect Defend Patch travels a lot better than creams and sprays because not only are they smaller and more compact, but how do you properly pack an aerosol can or tube of cream? These liquids are often too large to be allowed in your carry-on, so they must be packed in your checked bag, but what if it bursts in your bag due to low air pressures...Everything will be left smelling like bug repellent. The Insect Defend Patch is great because you can keep it with you on the plane in your carry-on, and put it on 2 hours before you land so the product will already be working by the time you get there and you will be protected.

FAQ #4 - Does the patch still work if we all go swimming with it on or do we need to re-apply after coming out of the water?

The greatest advantage to using the Insect DEFEND Patch as a means of protection against biting insects is that it continues to work using our bodies own chemistry regardless if we perspire or participate in any water related activity – including swimming. The adhesive qualities of the ‘Patch’ keeps it in place even when it gets wet, (be sure to follow all instructions when applying), and continues to be effective for the full 24-36 hours as the Thiamine (Vitamin B1) continues to be transferred into the bodies epidermal layer.

FAQ #3 - Is there a limit to the number of patches that can be used in a given amount of time?

Not really, depending on the biting pressure and body metabolism two patches can be used at the same time, no more than that should ever be necessary.

As the transdermal patch has time release technology, the Thiamine is released over a 24 hour period providing little chance of overdosing on this vitamin using the Insect DEFEND Patch.

Yellow and Dengue Fever

The mosquito that transmits these diseases was originally called the vector mosquito, but they became extinct in 2000 and we now have another kind of vector mosquito called the Aedes albopictus. There are no yellow or dengue fever outbreaks in our country as these mosquitos live in countries like Africa and South America. However, it is possible for people who travel to these areas to contract either disease and import it to Canada.

Yellow Fever

A viral infection spread by mosquitos and most common in Africa and South America. Anyone can get the disease, but elderly people have a higher risk of developing a severe infection. If someone has contracted the “fever”, symptoms usually start to develop 3-6 days after they are bitten.

FAQ # 2 - How exactly does this product work?

The Insect DEFEND Patch is a transdermal, patch that slowly releases Thiamine (Vitamin B1) into the dermal skin layer of the body, becoming effective in 2 hours. The Thiamine (Vitamin B1) is then slowly released through the skins pores through sweat glands. Combined with the body’s own chemistry it produces an invisible, odorless ‘shield’.

FAQ #1 - Where exactly should one apply the patch? Would it interfere with other patches (estrogen) that one applies?

Apply the Insect DEFEND Patch to a clean, dry and hairless part of the body. A large muscle group such as the upper arm or one found on the shoulder blade provides for large capillary action allowing for the transfer of Thiamine (Vitamin B1) throughout the bodies Epidermal layer.

With all prescribed medication side effects are possible, even with Natural Health products, when taking more than one product at the same time. Consult with your physician before using both together.

DEET Hazards

DEET repels mosquito's and other insects because it is a long lasting chemical that is hazardous to them. But did you know that it could potentially be harmful to you as well?

“DEET is a registered pesticide. DEET is short for N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (also known as N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide). It is a member of the toluene chemical family. Toluene is an organic solvent used in rubber and plastic cements and paint removers. DEET is absorbed through the skin and passes into the blood. The Medical Sciences Bulletin, published by Pharmaceutical Information Associates Ltd. reports, “Up to 56% of DEET applied topically penetrates intact human skin and 17% is absorbed into the bloodstream.” Blood concentrations of about 3 mg per litre have been reported several hours after DEET repellent was applied to skin in the prescribed fashion. DEET is also absorbed by the gut.

Scientists have discovered that not only can DEET itself affect the central nervous system, but combined with permethrin, which is another ingredient in mosquito repellents, it can lead to learning and memory dysfunction and motor deficits. DEET may also be significantly more toxic when combined with ethyl and isopropyl alcohols and Freon, which are also in some DEET repellents.

What is the Insect DEFEND Patch?

The Insect Defend Patch is an all-natural mosquito bite deterrent that contains only Thiamine (Vitamin B1) in a 75mg transdermal patch that can be applied discreetly to any hairless part of your body. The Thiamine absorbs into the bloodstream and mixes with your body chemicals, then exits through your pores. It goes to work after two short hours and lasts up to 36 hours, while protecting you and your family in the woods, swimming in the lake, or out on the field. Not only does the Insect Defend Patch last for a lengthy period of time, but it is also waterproof, making showering and swimming more convenient without having to reapply. Since it’s coming out through your pores, the more a person sweats the better it works. So it’s great for active people because creams and sprays dilute and run off when a person perspires.

This patch is 100% harmless and safe for everyone, from children as young as a year old, all the way to your eldest family member.
